Graduate Software Developer Munich, Germany | Hybrid / Onsite | Full-Time | Permanent Are you a high-achieving STEM graduate looking to build a career in software engineering, with the opportunity to work across different technologies, industries and complex technical challenges? A specialist technology consultancy in Munich is looking for exceptional graduate Software Developers to join its engineering teams, developing software solutions for clients ranging from major international businesses to innovative technology companies. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, developing and optimising complex software systems. Projects span traditional software development, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, automated testing and, where available, artificial intelligence and data engineering. You will work directly on client projects, applying your analytical skills to real-world engineering problems while developing your technical capabilities across different programming languages and environments. The company places particular emphasis on academic excellence, logical reasoning and the ability to learn quickly. Graduates with strong programming fundamentals, practical projects and a genuine interest in solving difficult technical problems are what matter for this role. Key Responsibilities • Analyse client requirements and translate complex technical problems into practical software solutions. • Design, develop and optimise software applications and large-scale software systems. • Write, test, debug and maintain code across relevant programming languages and technical environments. • Develop automation processes, improve software testing and contribute to reliable engineering workflows. • Support the implementation and improvement of cloud infrastructure and DevOps processes where relevant to the project. • Collaborate with software engineers and client teams to investigate problems, evaluate solutions and deliver technical improvements. • Continuously expand your engineering expertise through technical projects, independent learning, training and collaboration with colleagues. Required Experience & Skills Essential • A very strong academic background to Masters' level in a STEM subject, such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related engineering discipline. • Consistently excellent academic results across school and university studies. Candidates with grades around 1.0–1.5 on the German grading scale are particularly encouraged to apply. • Practical programming experience in one or more languages, such as C++, Java, Python, JavaScript, Rust or C#. • Strong analytical and logical reasoning skills, with the ability to break down complex problems and develop structured solutions. • A genuine interest in software engineering, programming and learning new technologies. • Business-fluent English and native or bilingual level fluent in German. Desirable • An MSc or PhD in a relevant STEM discipline, supported by outstanding academic results. • Experience developing software through university research, working-student positions, internships or personal projects. • A GitHub portfolio or other evidence of independent software development. • Exposure to algorithms, data structures, numerical computing, performance optimisation, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, DevOps or automated testing. • Experience working across multiple programming languages or technical environments. Recruiter's Note I'm particularly interested in speaking with Graduate Software Engineers, Junior Software Developers, Graduate IT Consultants, Graduate Computer Scientists, Graduate C++ Developers, Graduate Java Developers and STEM graduates transitioning into software engineering. Strong candidates may come from Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Computational Science, Computer Engineering or other quantitative disciplines, particularly from leading German universities such as TUM, LMU, KIT, RWTH Aachen and TU Berlin. Exceptional grades, native level of fluency in German, strong analytical ability and evidence of hands-on programming through research projects, scientific computing, simulations, algorithms or personal GitHub projects will help you stand out. This is particularly well suited to graduates who want broad, practical engineering experience rather than specialising in a single technology from day one.
