The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience across both Python backend development and production frontend development using React/Next.js. You will work as part of a small development team, building and maintaining an existing platform while also developing pilot solutions, custom MVPs, APIs, dashboards, data migration workflows, authentication integrations, and secure AWS deployments. Key Responsibilities • Design and develop full-stack applications from database schema through backend services and production user interfaces. • Build scalable backend services using Python, Django and/or FastAPI, including asynchronous/ASGI applications. • Develop production-quality frontend applications using React, Next.js or equivalent modern frameworks. • Design and implement RESTful APIs and Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) patterns. • Implement robust data validation using Pydantic and modern Python development practices. • Design PostgreSQL/Aurora schemas, optimize queries, manage migrations and perform data loading. • Deploy, troubleshoot and maintain applications across AWS classified partitions and regions. • Work with AWS services including EKS, Aurora, S3, IAM, VPC and KMS. • Develop and maintain reusable Terraform modules and infrastructure-as-code. • Integrate secure authentication and authorization using Keycloak, OIDC, SAML and/or CAC/PIV. • Develop secure applications in STIG-hardened and FIPS-validated environments. • Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines and follow established Git workflows. • Troubleshoot DevSecOps issues and support secure application deployments. • Contribute to legacy data migration, platform enhancements, pilot applications and custom MVP development. • Utilize appropriate AI-assisted development tools to improve development productivity while maintaining security and code-quality standards. Required Qualifications • Active TS/SCI clearance. • 5+ years of hands-on software development experience. • Strong production experience developing Python backends using Django and/or FastAPI. • Experience with async/ASGI and modern Python 3.13+ development. • Demonstrated production experience building complete applications with React, Next.js or an equivalent frontend framework. • Strong understanding of RESTful API design and Backend-for-Frontend patterns. • Experience with Pydantic-driven validation. • Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, query optimization, migrations and data loading. • Hands-on experience deploying and troubleshooting applications in AWS environments, including classified partitions/regions. • Experience with EKS, Aurora, S3, IAM, VPC and KMS. • Experience developing and maintaining Terraform modules. • Experience integrating authentication using Keycloak, OIDC, SAML and/or CAC/PIV. • Understanding of secure token handling and application security. • Experience working in STIG-hardened and FIPS-validated environments. • Experience with GitLab CI/CD and Git-based development workflows. • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a true full-stack engineer, not primarily a backend developer. Candidates must be able to demonstrate hands-on experience developing and supporting both Python backend services and production frontend applications. Experience with secure cloud environments, DevSecOps, infrastructure-as-code and classified AWS deployments is highly valued. Work Arrangement This position is based in Suitland, Maryland, with a hybrid schedule requiring 2–3 days onsite per week.
